When traveling to the U.S.A and its provinces, your local benefits travel with you through the BlueCard Programme, a service exclusive to Blue Cross of Jamaica Ltd. subscribers as part of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. With BlueCard, your core benefits - Local Base + Major Medical Benefits - contained in your local policy including, but not limited to Office Visits, In Patient Stay, Out Patient Services, Surgeries, Hospital Medical Visits, Physiotherapy, Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, Dialysis etc.
How does it work? - The local currency amount stated on your paper cards is converted to US$ and paid to the Overseas provider. There is no time limit on how long you are in the foreign country or to notify us of the illness or services received. No pre-approval is required. The member simply presents his/her Care Card (swipe card) to the overseas provider of service who will then call the eligibility number listed on the back of the card. Eligibility (A check to see if the policy is active? What is the effective date?) and level of coverage is then sought by the Overseas provider and credit and or any applicable discounts are then extended to the member accordingly.
