KEEPING JAMAICANS HEALTHY
At Sagicor® we are committed to ensuring that our people live a happier healthier life. We have a rich history of over 50 years of promoting wellness that is the life-long benefits of physical, mental and emotional health. We want our customers, and the nation to take the steps to make the necessary lifestyle changes for their well-being in support of a more balanced and improved quality of life.
To support our wellness philosophy we are working in partnership with individuals, diverse communities, and organizations to bring health care services to the doorsteps of vulnerable communities.
Early detection saves life
We are aware of the needs of community members who are unable to afford basic healthcare and feel a deep sense of responsibility to help those in greatest need.
The Full Hundred Wellness Tour is bringing FREE wellness checks and services to 100,000 Jamaicans in 100 communities across the island. The mission of the Full Hundred Wellness Tour is to make people aware of undetected health problems and encourage them to seek follow up care.
It’s a free health fair, staffed by nurses and doctors. Our partners offer medication, financial counseling and nutrition support with displays including cooking demonstrations with samples and recipes for healthy eating - all of which encourage individuals to understand the important role they have in maintaining their health.
The following tests/ checks will be available at a location near you:
Full Hundred Wellness Tour continues to gather momentum on its journey across the island. Since June 2007, the Tour has visited 21 locations and screened over 1000 persons. We have been at:
August Town, Penwood, Webster United Church, Sav la Mar, Santa Cruz, G/Portmore, Portmore, Appleton, Exchange, St. Ann, Old Harbour, Slipe Road, Red Hills Road, Windward Road, Rural Clarendon.

With the help of a Town Crier, and select advertisement and broadcasts on community and national radio stations, the word got around early that Sagicor and its partners would be in these areas. For some venues, the need for health care services was tremendous and community members came out in overwhelming numbers.
THE ATTENDANCE

Hundreds turned out at these rural venues (as seen in the photos). In Appleton Estate, Tuesday September 25, 2007 approximately 300 persons were screened, the largest screening number to date. Our Wellness Team along with partners, Nestle and National Commercial Bank Insurance Services , along with specially invited entities such as the Jamaica Cancer Society, extended themselves to ensure that those who came were screened, given medical and food samples and where necessary referred to the doctor, for further medical attention.
In Savanna-la-Mar, Wesmoreland over 110 persons were screened. In Exchange, St. Ann, over 115 were screened and this has been the pattern for 90% of the locations.
According to Violet Wright, Wellness Service Manager, “From these experiences, we have recognized that the need is greatest in the rural communities. Many came as early as 5:30 am and some reported to nurses that they have not been to see a doctor in many years… they only use the home remedies. So, they welcomed us with open arms. Some of the blood pressure and diabetes readings which the team recorded were off the chart… Can you imagine BP of 250/140?”
Another concern Nola Phillpotts-Brown, marketing Manager noted that “ We are hoping that we can partner with some of the drug companies which can provide medical samples for the treatment of some of the conditions which we are seeing. The fact is that many after being given free consultation with the doctor, still cannot afford to "fill the prescription" given. The medical samples to these persons would help greatly.”
A SPECIAL CASE - DETECTED JUST IN TIME
Recently, the assigned medical practitioner at Webster’s, Dr. Andrew Salmon examined a female patient with irregular/erratic heartbeat at the along with sweating. He diagnosed that the symptoms could lead to a fatal condition and immediately instructed that the patient be transported to a hospital, preferable the Kingston Public Hospital.
The Sagicor Mobile Unit, along with Marketing Officer, Mrs. Streete-handpicks took her to the Kingston Public Hospital. On arrival, the patient was admitted to the hospital and it was confirmed that she was suffering from a "blood clot in the lung" or pulmonary embolism. She was hospitalized for three weeks.
Since then, she has visited the Sagicor Kingston office to express her thanks... A thanks which she has been repeating to anyone who will listen to her. She is convinced that the Sagicor Wellness Screening Tour has saved her life.
At Sagicor, we firmly believe that the Full Hundred Wellness Tour is fulfilling a critical need. Thanks to the support of our partners, we are also addressing some aspects of the social and economic needs of residents in the underserved communities which we visit.
Look out for the Sagicor Wellness Tour in your community or a location near you!
