Government Employees Administrative Services Only

A significant portion of Blue Cross of Jamaica Limited’s business is providing health care coverage to Government employees. The Government Employees Administrative Services Only (GEASO) Health Care Programme does just that.

"Blue Cross of Jamaica Ltd. provides administrative claims payment services only and does not assume any financial risk or obligation with respect to claims."

The Government of Jamaica, in collaboration with Blue Cross of Jamaica Limited has put in place a health insurance scheme to provide healthcare benefits for its employees. The health scheme, which is administered by Blue Cross® on behalf of government, provides coverage for Civil Servants, Teachers, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Island Special Constabulary Force, the United District Constables, Nurses and employees of some statutory bodies.

In 1988, government through the Ministry of the Public Service signed an agreement with Blue Cross® to offer comprehensive health insurance for its employees. Under this agreement, Blue Cross® provides Administrative Services Only to the Scheme.

The scheme which is funded by the joint monthly contributions of government and employees, moved from 50% contribution by Government to 80% contribution by Government and 20% by employees in 1997.
